Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs? We are recruiting a SEN Teaching Assistant for a specialist school in Dewsbury (WF13), supporting pupils aged 5-19 with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Complex Needs, Communication Difficulties, and additional learning needs. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to help students develop confidence, communication skills, independence, and the tools they need to thrive both in school and beyond.
About the Role
As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students to access learning and achieve their individual goals. You will help deliver a personalised curriculum focused on:
- Communication and interaction skills
- Independence and life skills development
- Emotional wellbeing and self-regulation
- Sensory and experiential learning
- Building confidence and social skills
- Achieving EHCP outcomes through tailored support
What You'll Be Doing
- Supporting students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
- Assisting with classroom activities and personalised learning programmes
- Supporting pupils with Autism, Complex Needs, and Communication Difficulties
- Using communication strategies such as Makaton, PECS, visual timetables, and sensory resources
- Encouraging independence and engagement in learning
- Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour
- Working closely with teachers, therapists, and wider support staff
- Supporting with personal care where required

- Residential Care
- Psychology or Education Studies
Team Teach training is desirable but not essential.
