We're currently recruiting for a School Readiness Mentor to work within welcoming and supportive Primary Schools, starting in September. This rewarding opportunity is ideal for graduates looking to gain valuable school-based experience before progressing into teaching, educational psychology, SEND support, social work or other child-focused professions.
As a School Readiness Mentor, you'll support children in developing the academic, social, emotional and communication skills needed to thrive within the classroom environment. You'll play a key role in helping pupils build confidence, independence and positive learning habits that set them up for long-term success.
Your Main Responsibilities
- Support pupils across EYFS, KS1 and KS2 on a one-to-one, small group and whole-class basis.
- Help children develop confidence, resilience and positive attitudes towards learning.
- Deliver targeted interventions to support literacy, numeracy and communication skills.
- Support children with SEND, including Autism, ADHD, Speech and Language needs and SEMH.
- Encourage positive behaviour, social interaction and emotional regulation.
- Work closely with teachers to identify and support pupils requiring additional guidance.
- Assist with classroom activities, learning resources and pupil engagement.
- Promote attendance, participation and independence within the school environment.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, staff and families.
Ideal Background
We welcome applications from graduates who have completed one of the following degrees within the last five years:
- Childhood Studies
- Early Years Childhood Studies
- Psychology
- Criminology
- BA Education
- Primary Education
- MA Education
- MA Education (SEND and Inclusion)
- PGCE
- Other Education, Child Development or Social Science-related degrees
Requirements
- Degree obtained within the last five years.
- Professional employment references covering the last two years.
- A genuine passion for supporting children and young people.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A patient, nurturing and proactive approach.
- Experience working with children or young people is desirable.
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
