Milk Education is looking for a resilient, dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive secondary school in Oldham. This is an ongoing, long-term role starting immediately, with temp-to-perm opportunities available for the right educator.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant in Oldham, you will work closely with secondary-aged pupils who experience social, emotional, and mental health barriers. • Work collaboratively with class teachers, pastoral leaders, and the SENDCo to implement individual behaviour and support plans.
  • Act as a reliable mentor across the school day, helping students rebuild confidence, self-regulation, and classroom engagement.
  • Maintain clear communication with teaching staff regarding pupil progress and any safeguarding concerns.

What we're looking for:

  • Prior experience working as an SEMH Teaching Assistant, SEN support worker, learning mentor, or youth worker.
  • Practical understanding of de-escalation strategies and positive behaviour support within a secondary environment.
  • A calm, patient approach when managing complex behaviours and social-emotional challenges.
  • Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Childcare, or equivalent practical school-based experience.
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to process one through Milk Education.
