Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with their mental health and wellbeing?

Do you have experience in mental health, care, support work, youth work or SEN and want to take your skills into a school environment?

Milk Education is working with welcoming and supportive schools across Durham and the surrounding areas, and we're looking for compassionate, resilient and dedicated Mental Health Support Assistants to join us throughout the 2026/27 academic year.

You don't necessarily need previous school experience — your existing support experience could be exactly what a young person needs.

We're particularly interested in candidates with experience supporting individuals with mental health needs, SEMH, anxiety, emotional regulation, challenging behaviour, autism or additional needs.

What could you be doing?

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils.

• Build trusting and positive relationships with children and young people.

• Support pupils with their emotional wellbeing and mental health.

• Help pupils develop confidence, resilience and independence.

• Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation.

• Support pupils to engage with learning and the wider school environment.

• Work closely with teachers and pastoral teams.

• Provide consistent, calm and nurturing support.

• Help pupils overcome barriers to learning.
