Milk Education is working with a welcoming primary school in Newcastle to recruit a Graduate Teaching Assistant for a full-time position starting in September 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate looking to gain valuable, hands‑on classroom experience before progressing into teacher training, including a PGCE, SCITT or other teacher training pathway.

The Role

As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside experienced teachers and support pupils across the primary age range. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils during lessons and independent learning
  • Providing 1:1 and small‑group support
  • Helping deliver activities across the primary curriculum
  • Supporting literacy, numeracy and phonics where required
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and engagement
  • Building positive relationships with pupils
  • Assisting teachers with classroom preparation and resources
  • Supporting children to develop confidence, independence and resilience

Who We're Looking For

We're particularly interested in graduates who are considering a future career in primary teaching, although previous school experience is not essential.

You should have:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification
  • A genuine interest in working with children
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A patient, enthusiastic and positive approach
  • The ability to build strong relationships with pupils
  • A willingness to learn and develop within a school environment

Previous experience working with children is desirable but not essential — relevant experience through tutoring, coaching, mentoring, childcare, volunteering or similar settings would also be beneficial.
