We're currently recruiting for an experienced SENDCo to join one of our partner schools in Greater Manchester, supporting the school as it prepares to open a brand-new SEND Unit.
This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate SEND professional to play a key role in shaping and developing a new specialist provision from the very beginning. You'll work closely with pupils, families, school staff and external agencies to ensure children with SEND receive the support, care and opportunities they need to thrive.
The successful candidate will combine strategic SEND leadership with strong classroom practice, helping to develop effective systems, lead interventions, support staff and promote an inclusive culture across the school.
Whether you're an experienced SENDCo or have worked closely alongside an experienced SENDCo and are ready to take the next step, this role offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact on children and families.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Providing strategic leadership and oversight of SEND provision across the school.
- Supporting the development and successful opening of the school's new SEND Unit.
- Assessing pupils' needs and ensuring appropriate support and interventions are put in place.
- Working closely with teachers to promote Quality First Teaching and inclusive classroom practice.
- Leading and delivering appropriate SEND interventions where required.
- Supporting staff through guidance, modelling, training and staff meetings.
- Monitoring pupil progress and analysing SEND-related data to identify areas for development.
- Making referrals to health professionals and other external agencies where appropriate.
- Leading and contributing to multi-agency meetings and working collaboratively with professionals.
- Building strong, positive relationships with pupils, parents, carers and wider school staff.
- Supporting the SEMH needs of pupils and contributing to the development of a nurturing and inclusive provision.
- Producing detailed reports, referrals and other written communications as required.
- Carrying out learning walks and monitoring the effectiveness of SEND provision.
- Ensuring pupils receive appropriate interventions, resources and support to access their education.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and relevant statutory requirements.
- Supporting the school through organisational growth and change.
- Where required, undertaking class teacher responsibilities and contributing to classroom teaching.
- Upholding safeguarding procedures and promoting the welfare of all children and young people.
Requirements or Skills:
- Recognised SENDCo qualification or relevant experience/qualification to undertake the role.
- Previous experience working with a wide range of special educational needs.
- Previous SENDCo experience or significant experience working alongside an experienced SENDCo.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of the SEND Code of Practice.
