We're currently recruiting for a Pastoral Support Worker to join a welcoming and supportive school in Leeds. This role would suit someone with experience in pastoral support, youth work, mentoring, sports coaching, education, care or community work who wants to make a meaningful difference to young people.
Your Main Responsibilities
- Providing one-to-one and small-group support to pupils who may need additional pastoral or emotional support
- Building strong, positive relationships with pupils and becoming a trusted and consistent adult
- Supporting pupils with confidence, self-esteem, resilience and emotional wellbeing
- Helping pupils manage their emotions and develop positive strategies for dealing with challenges
- Supporting pupils who may experience SEND, SEMH, behavioural or emotional difficulties
- Mentoring pupils and helping them develop positive attitudes towards school and learning
- Supporting pupils who may be struggling with attendance, motivation or engagement
- Working alongside teachers, pastoral staff and the wider school team to provide consistent support
- Helping manage behaviour and encouraging positive choices and respectful relationships
- Identifying barriers that may be affecting a pupil's ability to learn and helping them access appropriate support
- Encouraging pupils to develop independence and take ownership of their behaviour and learning
- Supporting the school in creating a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment
Requirements or Skills
We're looking for someone who is approachable, resilient, patient and confident in working with young people. You'll ideally have:
- Previous experience working with children or young people in a school, youth, care, sports or community setting
- Experience supporting behaviour, wellbeing or emotional needs is desirable
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to build trusting relationships while maintaining clear and appropriate boundaries
- A calm and consistent approach when dealing with challenging behaviour or difficult situations
- Good emotional awareness and the ability to listen and respond appropriately
- A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers and reach their potential
- The ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other professionals
- A proactive and positive attitude
- A willingness to complete relevant safeguarding and CPD training
