About the Role
As a Assistant Residential Practitioner, you'll work as part of a supportive team to provide a safe, nurturing, and stable home environment for children and young people.
You’ll play a key role in helping them develop emotionally, socially, and educationally while promoting independence and positive life outcomes.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Building positive and trusting relationships with children and young people
- Providing consistent care and emotional support
- Encouraging independence and life skills development
- Supporting education, health, and personal wellbeing
- Promoting positive behaviour through nurturing and restorative approaches
- Working alongside families, social workers, education providers, and other professionals
- Maintaining accurate records and contributing to care plans
- Creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive home environment
Depending on the service, you may work with young people with complex needs, emotional and behavioural difficulties, or within mainstream residential homes.

- Caring, patient, and emotionally resilient
- Excellent communicators with strong interpersonal skills
- Flexible and able to work a rota that includes evenings, weekends, bank holidays, waking nights, or sleep-ins where required
- Committed to providing outstanding care and support
You’ll ideally have:
- Experience supporting children or young people through employment, volunteering, education, or personal experience
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent), or willingness to complete the qualification (fully funded)
- Good literacy, numeracy, and basic IT skills
