Learning Support Assistant | SEN & Autism (ASC) | Feltham | £110 per day
Company: Milk Education
Location: Feltham, London (easily accessible by public transport; parking available)
Salary: £110 per day
Job Type: Full-time | Immediate Start | October 2026 start dates available
Want hands‑on experience supporting autistic children and young people with SEN? Whether you are building towards a career in educational psychology, occupational therapy, speech and language or SEND teaching, or you just want to find out if this is the right path for you, this role will give you real experience that stands out.
Milk Education is recruiting Learning Support Assistants for a specialist SEN provision in Feltham. The school supports children and young people with autism (ASC) and a range of additional needs, including communication difficulties, sensory needs and learning needs. Classes are small, staffing ratios are high and the approach is built around each pupil as an individual.
This is not a typical classroom assistant role. You will be working closely with pupils, teachers and therapists to help each young person communicate, build independence and make progress at their own pace.
What you will be doing
- Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with autism and additional needs
- Supporting communication, using visuals, Makaton, PECS or other approaches depending on the pupil
- Helping pupils manage sensory needs, routines and transitions through the day
- Following individual support plans, EHCP targets and structured teaching approaches such as TEACCH
- Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour, including calm de‑escalation when needed
- Encouraging independence, life skills and social interaction
- Working alongside teachers, speech and language therapists, OTs and other professionals
What you will gain
- Direct experience supporting pupils with ASC and complex SEN
- A solid understanding of sensory processing, communication and how autistic pupils learn
- Experience working with EHCPs and multi‑agency teams
- Practical skills in positive behaviour support and de‑escalation
- Evidence for your UCAS, postgraduate or job applications, plus material for a reflective practice portfolio
Many graduates use this role to confirm whether educational psychology, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, SEND teaching or SEMH support is the right direction for them.
Start dates: flexible to suit you
- Immediate start available
- October start date
We welcome applications from candidates ready to begin now, and equally from graduates who want to secure the role ahead of a slightly later start.
Who we are looking for
You do not need school experience. What matters is your patience, your empathy and your willingness to learn how to support autistic young people properly.
We would love to hear from you if you have:
- A degree in psychology, education, sociology, criminology, occupational therapy or a related field (or are currently studying)
- Experience in care, youth work, mentoring, support work or volunteering with children or adults with additional needs
- Knowledge of or a real interest in autism, SEN and child development
- A calm, consistent and patient approach
- Strong communication skills and a team mindset
Full training and onboarding support are provided from day one.
