This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning.

You'll work closely with students who require additional support to manage their emotions, develop positive relationships, and engage successfully in education.

Whether your background is in education, youth work, care, mentoring, or behaviour support, we'd love to hear from you if you're committed to making a lasting impact.

The Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will provide tailored support to students both in and out of the classroom.

Working alongside teaching staff and pastoral teams, you'll help create a calm, structured, and nurturing environment where students feel safe, supported, and able to achieve their potential.

Every day will be different, and you'll play a key role in encouraging positive behaviour, building confidence, and supporting students to re-engage with learning.

  • Your Responsibilities

  • Build positive, trusting relationships that encourage engagement and personal development.
  • Support students to regulate their emotions and make positive choices using consistent and restorative approaches.
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging lessons and adapting learning activities where required.
  • Promote positive behaviour and contribute to a safe, inclusive learning environment.
  • Support students during transitions, breaktimes, and enrichment activities when needed.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, families, and external professionals.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and behaviour in line with school procedures.
  • We're Looking For Someone Who
  • Has experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, additional needs, or challenging behaviour.
  • Is calm, patient, resilient, and able to remain professional in challenging situations.
  • Can build strong relationships while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries.
  • Has excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Is passionate about supporting vulnerable young people to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Has a flexible and proactive approach to supporting learning and wellbeing.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience working as a Learning Support Assistant, Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, Youth Worker, Support Worker, Care Worker, or Sports Coach.
  • Experience within an Alternative Provision, specialist school, SEND setting, or mainstream school.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practice, restorative approaches, or positive behaviour support.
  • Team Teach or equivalent training (desirable but not essential).
