Working hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm, Monday to Friday
Start date: January 2027
Pay Rate: Β£750+ per week (negotiable depending on qualifications and experience)
Milk Education is recruiting a SEMH Teacher to join a specialist setting supporting young people aged 11-16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The school provides a nurturing and highly supportive environment for students who may have experienced trauma, adverse childhood experiences and barriers to learning. Students may present with complex emotional and behavioural needs, meaning a patient, adaptable and relationship-focused approach is essential.
The school offers small class sizes, with a maximum of 6 students in each class, allowing teachers to provide a highly personalised approach and give each young person the individual support and attention they need.
As an SEMH Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to the individual needs, abilities and interests of your students. You will work closely with teaching assistants, pastoral staff and the wider school team to create a calm and positive learning environment where students feel safe, valued and encouraged to achieve.
SEMH Teacher Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons for pupils aged 11-16 with a range of SEMH needs
- Adapt lessons, resources and teaching approaches to meet the individual needs and abilities of each student
- Build positive, trusting relationships that encourage engagement, confidence and resilience
- Support students with emotional regulation and promote positive behaviour strategies within the classroom
- Work closely with teaching assistants, pastoral staff and the wider school team to provide personalised support
- Monitor student progress and adapt teaching to support individual learning and development
- Promote a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment where every student feels respected, understood and able to succeed
- Encourage students to develop their independence, confidence and life skills alongside their academic learning
SEMH Teacher Person Specification:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs
- A strong understanding of how to adapt teaching and learning to meet individual needs
- Patient, calm and resilient when supporting students with complex emotional and behavioural needs
- Confident managing behaviour and supporting students with emotional regulation
- Able to build positive, trusting relationships with young people
