We are working with a well established secondary school in Gateshead seeking a proactive Cover Supervisor to join their team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who can confidently lead classes, maintain high expectations, and create a calm, purposeful learning environment in the absence of the class teacher.

The Role

As a Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for delivering pre-planned lessons across a range of subjects, ensuring pupils remain engaged and on task while maintaining the school's high standards of behaviour and conduct.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise whole classes during teacher absences using pre-prepared lesson plans.
• Establish a positive, calm, and focused classroom environment.
• Apply the school's behaviour policy consistently and confidently.
• Manage challenging behaviour effectively using positive behaviour management strategies.
• Encourage pupils to remain engaged, motivated, and focused throughout lessons.
• Support students with varying learning needs while promoting inclusion and participation.
• Liaise with teaching staff and report on lesson progress and any behavioural concerns.
• Contribute positively to the wider school community and uphold safeguarding responsibilities.
• The Ideal Candidate
• Previous experience working as a Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant, Youth Worker, Sports Coach, or in another classroom-based role.
• Outstanding behaviour management and classroom management skills.
• Confident leading classes of up to 30 students independently.
• Resilient, adaptable, and able to remain calm under pressure.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• A positive role model who can build respectful relationships with young people.
• A genuine passion for supporting students to succeed.
• An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
