Milk Education is partnering with a welcoming primary school in York to recruit an experienced and dedicated Year 3 SEN Teaching Assistant for a full-time, long-term role starting in September 2026.

This temporary position has the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

We are looking for someone who is patient, nurturing and experienced in adapting their approach to meet individual needs.

You will play a key role in supporting the child's academic progress, emotional wellbeing and personal development while working closely with the class teacher and wider school team.

Your Main Responsibilities Will Include

  • Supporting the child's learning, communication and emotional regulation throughout the school day
  • Helping the pupil remain engaged, focused and confident in their learning
  • Adapting activities and resources to meet the child's individual needs
  • Supporting positive behaviour through consistent and nurturing approaches
  • Preparing resources and assisting with classroom activities
  • Building a strong, trusting relationship with the pupil
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff and the wider school team
  • Promoting inclusion and ensuring the child feels valued and supported

We Are Looking For

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or SEND Support Assistant
  • Experience supporting children with Autism and/or additional needs
  • A strong understanding of SEND strategies and inclusive practice
  • A patient, caring and adaptable approach
  • The ability to build positive relationships with children and staff
  • Confidence supporting emotional regulation and behaviour needs
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A genuine passion for helping children achieve their potential
