Transport Planner

Ellesmere Port, Wirral

£28,000 - £30,000 (flexible depending on experience)

We are recruiting for an experienced Transport Planner to join a well-established, market-leading logistics business specialising within the import of bulk freight.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and organised transport professional to play a key role in planning and managing UK-wide bulk haulage movements, ensuring efficient operations and exceptional customer service.

The Candidate

  • Previous experience in a Transport Planner, Transport Controller or similar transport roles.
  • Experience within a bulk haulage, tanker, tipper, or general haulage environment is highly desirable
  • A strong background working in a fast‑paced transport office.
  • Good knowledge of UK Drivers' Hours and Working Time Regulations.
  • Strong understanding of transport compliance and operational planning.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and problem‑solving abilities.
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • A flexible and proactive approach to work.
  • Sound decision‑making skills.
  • Good geographical knowledge of the North West and wider UK road network.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and schedule bulk product movements across the UK.
  • Monitor and manage driver performance and daily activities.
  • Conduct driver briefings and debriefings where required.
  • Collate Proofs of Delivery (PODs) and prepare invoicing summaries.
  • Ensure all transport jobs are accurately entered into the transport management system.
  • Review routes and optimise vehicle utilisation to maximise operational efficiency.
  • Keep customers informed of any service failures, delays, or operational issues.
  • Manage and coordinate subcontractor activity on a daily basis.
  • Act as the key communication link between customers and drivers.
  • Ensure compliance with Driver Hours Regulations and the Working Time Directive.
  • Investigate service failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Deliver consistently high levels of customer service.
