We're currently recruiting for a dedicated 1:1 SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a secondary school in Denton on a long-term basis starting immediately.

You'll be joining a welcoming, student-centred secondary school in Denton that places emotional wellbeing and inclusive support at the heart of daily school life. This is an exceptional opportunity for a patient educator to become a trusted, consistent presence in Denton, working closely with a Year 7 student navigating severe anxiety who needs regular reassurance to access their education.

As a 1:1 SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will act as a key source of stability, helping the pupil transition smoothly into secondary school routines and stay calm throughout lessons.

Your main responsibilities will include:

• Working as a dedicated 1:1 SEMH Teaching Assistant supporting a vulnerable Year 7 pupil across their daily timetable in Denton.

• Providing constant reassurance, quiet encouragement, and low-stimulus interventions to help the student regulate their emotions and avoid feeling overwhelmed.

• Collaborating with the class teacher and SENCo to break lesson materials into manageable chunks, helping the pupil focus without added academic stress.

• Delivering proactive SEMH strategies to identify early anxiety triggers and de-escalate emotional distress before it impacts the pupil's learning.

• Assisting the student with secondary school transitions, movement between classrooms, and unstructured times to build their day-to-day confidence.

• Serving as an empathetic 1:1 SEMH Teaching Assistant role model, maintaining clear, comforting boundaries in line with the school's pastoral care policies.

Requirements or Skills:

• Recent experience working as a 1:1 SEMH Teaching Assistant, learning mentor, or youth support specialist in a secondary school environment.

• Demonstrable experience supporting young people with SEMH needs, severe anxiety, school phobia, or emotional regulation challenges.

• A gentle, highly reassuring approach combined with patience, active listening, and strong de-escalation skills.

• A Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Childcare, or equivalent practical SEN/SEMH background.

• Ability to commit to full-time school hours and commute reliably to Denton each day.
