PMLD Support Worker

Are you a Support Worker, Teaching Assistant, Care Worker or Healthcare professional looking to make a real difference to children and young people with profound and multiple learning difficulties?

Do you have a patient, compassionate and nurturing approach and want to develop your experience within a specialist SEND setting?

Milk Education is currently recruiting for a dedicated PMLD Support Workers to work within specialist schools supporting pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and complex additional needs.

You will work as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, providing personalised support that enables pupils to communicate, develop independence, access learning and enjoy meaningful experiences throughout the school day.

We have both full time and part time flexible options

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience working with children, young people or adults with PMLD or complex learning needs is desirable.
  • Previous experience as a Support Worker, Teaching Assistant, Care Worker, Healthcare Assistant or similar is advantageous.
  • A caring, patient and person-centred approach.
  • Confidence supporting pupils with complex physical and learning needs.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A calm and resilient approach when responding to individual pupil needs.
  • Willingness to support with personal care and physical needs where required.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children and young people.
  • Ability to provide two recent references.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with PMLD and complex needs.
  • Support pupils to access personalised learning and classroom activities.
  • Assist with personal care, feeding, mobility and physical support in line with individual care plans.
  • Support pupils with communication, including non-verbal communication and alternative communication methods.
  • Provide sensory-based activities and experiences to support engagement and development.
  • Encourage independence and develop pupils' functional and life skills.
  • Support pupils during lessons, break times, lunch and transitions.
  • Follow individual care plans, risk assessments and behaviour support strategies.
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, nurses and other specialist professionals.
  • Monitor and communicate changes in pupils' needs, wellbeing and progress.
  • Promote dignity, choice, independence and inclusion at all times.
  • Help create a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment where every pupil can thrive.
