Milk Education is currently recruiting an enthusiastic, resilient and compassionate Pastoral Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive Secondary School in Bolton. This opportunity is available from September and is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting young people's wellbeing, behaviour and personal development.

Whether you're an experienced Pastoral Assistant, Learning Mentor, Behaviour Mentor, Youth Worker, Teaching Assistant or someone with transferable experience working with young people, this is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful difference in students' lives while gaining valuable experience within a secondary school.

Working closely with the school's pastoral team, Heads of Year and senior leaders, you'll play a key role in helping to promote high standards of behaviour, attendance, wellbeing and engagement, ensuring every student is supported to reach their full potential.

Your Role

  • Support the Heads of Year with the pastoral care of students
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students, acting as a consistent and supportive role model
  • Monitor and support student behaviour, promoting high expectations and positive conduct in line with the school's behaviour policy
  • Work proactively to improve attendance and punctuality, following up concerns with students and parents/carers where appropriate
  • Support students experiencing social, emotional or behavioural challenges, helping them overcome barriers to learning
  • Engage positively with parents/carers, helping to build strong home-school relationships that support student success
  • Assist with maintaining high standards of uniform, behaviour and attendance across the school
  • Liaise with teachers, safeguarding leads and external agencies to ensure students receive appropriate support
  • Maintain accurate pastoral records and contribute to safeguarding procedures, ensuring the welfare of every student remains a priority
  • Promote a positive, inclusive and respectful school culture where every student feels safe, supported and valued

We're Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has experience working with young people in a school, youth work, mentoring, coaching, social care or similar setting (desirable)
  • Has a strong understanding of behaviour management, student wellbeing and safeguarding, or is willing to undertake relevant training
  • Is passionate about improving the life chances of young people and supporting their personal development
  • Can build positive relationships with students, families and colleagues
  • Is calm, resilient, empathetic and able to remain professional in challenging situations
  • Has excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Is proactive, flexible and able to work effectively as part of a wider pastoral team
  • Holds a relevant qualification or degree (desirable but not essential)
