Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?
We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Support Assistant to join specialist SEMH schools across Bolton, supporting pupils who may experience behavioural, emotional and social challenges.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to make a genuine difference, helping pupils develop positive behaviours, emotional regulation, confidence and engagement with education.
The Role

Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.

Build positive, trusting relationships and act as a consistent role model.

Support pupils with emotional regulation, anxiety, low confidence and challenging behaviour.

Use positive behaviour support, de-escalation and restorative approaches.

Help pupils identify triggers and develop appropriate coping strategies.

Support pupils to engage positively with learning and school routines.

Follow individual behaviour, learning and support plans.

Reinforce positive behaviour through praise, encouragement and consistent boundaries.

Support pupils during transitions, break times and challenging periods.

Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams and other professionals to support pupil progress.
We're Looking For a Behaviour Support Assistant Who:

Has a genuine passion for supporting children and young people with SEMH needs.

Is calm, patient and confident when managing challenging behaviour.

Can build strong and trusting relationships with pupils.

Understands the importance of positive behaviour reinforcement and emotional regulation.

Has excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Is resilient, consistent and able to remain calm under pressure.

Can set clear boundaries while maintaining a nurturing and supportive approach.

Is committed to helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.
Previous SEMH or behaviour support experience is desirable but not essential. We welcome applications from candidates with transferable experience in schools, youth work, care, residential settings, sports coaching, mentoring, support work or similar environments.
