Your new role
The principal function of this position is to lead and oversee electrical design activities within the team as directed by the Head of T&D and to assist in the development of the Group's capabilities in the field of HV/EHV Engineering. The role will include taking a senior role in project work, focused on management toward coordinated and compliant design and client liaison, mentoring, and coaching junior members of the team. The role includes meetings with clients, contractors, and other designers. It is therefore important the candidate has good communication skills and can demonstrate relevant experience. Site visits or visits to non-UK design offices will also be required during design and delivery. The role involves taking responsibility for Work Package Design Management including all reporting to satisfy the company’s design management requirements.
In this exciting role, you will play a pivotal part in the expansion of our UK&I sector within the Transmission & Distribution (T&D) business, leveraging our global delivery and growth model. As a member of the UK&I T&D team, you will be integrated into our dynamic global Power Systems team, which boasts a robust network of 300 highly skilled engineers. Our global team possesses specialized expertise in substation design, cable engineering, and overhead line design. You will collaborate closely with our seasoned professionals in these areas, leading and innovating design projects for the UK&I market. Additionally, you will have the transformative opportunity to support and cultivate the development of our UK&I design team, contributing to its growth and success.

Your key responsibilities will be:
- Lead role for Primary Design of HV and EHV Substations in compliance with relevant BS, IEC, and customer-specified standards.
- Responsibility for coordination of design of substation and/or OH/cable design from concept to detailed design as per client requirements.
- Multidisciplinary design management and client management.
- Liaison with other members of the T&D design team, power systems team and client engineers.
- Technical management of junior engineers and CAD draught professionals.
- Accountable for compliant and coordinated primary engineering design on own projects as well as for other team members. Attend technical meetings with the client to ensure client satisfaction.
- Development and training of junior engineers.
About you:
- HNC / HND / Degree Qualified in Electrical Engineering with experience in the UK Electricity Transmission and Distribution industry. Ideally NG authorised.
- Membership of the IET, Chartered Status, or working towards Chartered Engineer status.
- Experience of working and/or authorisation with major UK utilities such as NG or DNO companies. Possess a proficient understanding of the electricity industry & regulatory standards, policies, and their application to the role.
- Strong electrical knowledge and experience in the equipment design, specification, layout, and detailed engineering of extra and high voltage substations electrical equipment and product range.
- A good understanding of electrical plant, transformer, protection, relays, and control principles and construction disciplines and current ENA, BS, and IEC electrotechnical engineering standards, to ensure full application and compliance requirements can be achieved.
- Multi-disciplinary design management experience.
- An ability and willingness to work in a multi-disciplinary and multi-locational team environment in collaboration with our clients.
