A&M EDM Limited is looking for an experienced CAD/CAM Programmer to join our precision engineering team in Smethwick.
This is a varied role within a busy, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
You will produce CNC programs for work ranging from complex one-off components through to repeat and batch production.
The work includes technically demanding components for Formula 1, motorsport, aerospace and other high-performance engineering sectors.
You will need to work accurately, respond to changing production priorities and consistently meet demanding quality and delivery requirements.
Essential experience
Applicants must have
- Strong programming experience using Autodesk Power Mill.
- Experience using Autodesk Power Shape.
- Previous CAD/CAM programming experience within a precision engineering or manufacturing environment.
- A sound understanding of CNC milling and machining processes.
- Experience programming complex, high-precision components.
- Knowledge of machining a wide range of materials, from aluminium through to difficult-to-machine materials such as Inconel.
- The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, models and technical specifications.
- A good understanding of tooling, cutting strategies, speeds and feeds.
- The ability to work accurately in a quick-paced production environment.
Practical experience using both Power Mill and Power Shape is essential for this position.
Key responsibilities
- Producing safe, accurate and efficient CNC programs using Power Mill.
- Using Power Shape to prepare, modify and work with component models and manufacturing geometry.
- Programming work ranging from complex one-off parts to repeat and batch production.
- Selecting appropriate machining strategies, tooling, speeds and feeds.
- Programming components manufactured from materials including aluminium, steels, titanium and Inconel.
- Reviewing customer drawings, CAD models and technical requirements.
- Working closely with CNC machinists, production managers and other members of the engineering team.
- Supporting the prove-out and optimisation of programs on the shop floor.
- Identifying opportunities to improve machining efficiency, cycle times and component quality.
- Ensuring programs meet the required dimensional, surface-finish and quality standards.
- Managing several priorities while working to demanding customer deadlines.
