About The Role

If you’d like to support your local community by helping to ensure that people who are worried about or affected by dementia are aware of the support and advice services we offer, we have just the role for you! You’ll support local events, hold information stands, and display leaflets in a variety of venues and locations highly visible in your community, such as libraries and GP surgeries. You’ll make sure the information publicised in your community is up to date and accurate. You’ll also establish connections with local organisations and community groups to help achieve widespread awareness of the support we offer.

As a representative of Alzheimer's Society, we will provide you with branded clothing, and you may also have the opportunity to be included in event pictures to showcase the Society work in the local media. This role is to support our Brain Health Dementia Adviser out in the community across East Riding of Yorkshire. You will support her with our monthly ‘pop up’ information stands which are currently held at Cottingham, Hedon, Driffield, Goole, Bridlington and Haltemprice, and we would work with you so that you find the right location for you.

We are holding a "Meet the Team" day on Thursday 4th June 2026 from 12‑4pm at Beverley Housing Charity, Morton Lane, Beverley, HU17 9DD. Potential volunteers are invited along to find out more— to register your interest in attending, please contact elaine.agar@alzheimers.org.uk.

Qualifications

  • You enjoy meeting members of the public and attending local events.
  • You are passionate about raising awareness about dementia in your local community.
  • You have good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • You are able to volunteer both independently and within a local team.
  • You are able to travel to a variety of venues or events, bringing with you the relevant support information and materials.
  • Minimum age – 16 years old.

This is a flexible volunteer role which is carried out within your local area and on various days and times to suit your availability.
