As a Group Support Volunteer, you’ll support and encourage people affected by dementia to engage in activities and socialise with others in a group setting. A friendly face at the group, you’ll welcome and talk to people affected by dementia to help them feel comfortable and make sure they’re offered refreshments. You’ll also help set up and tidy away at the end of the group.

Your involvement in this role will ensure people affected by dementia are able to meet others in a similar situation, access the support and information they need and enjoy meaningful activities.

We have an exciting opportunity for volunteers to help out at one or more of our lovely groups across Doncaster and South Yorkshire. We have numerous groups for you to choose from, and the option to join other groups, or cover for other volunteers when needed. Location preferences can be discussed at interview.

Please come along to a taster session first if you want to get a feel for the role! You can request this on application.

If you or someone you know would like to apply, but are not confident using online systems, we will be happy to facilitate an offline application for you. Please email volunteering@alzheimers.org.uk for more info.

We strive to keep a safe and approachable space for our service users, so you must be willing to partake in keeping the space safe for all!

We are looking for a kind, empathetic, engaging team player, who is flexible and adaptable to different activities and engagement with our lovely service users. Everyone is encouraged to apply, however, we do have some male service users who could use some male companionship at the groups, so please, if you have the time to spare, apply now!

Most of our locations are accessible and we will be willing to endeavour to accommodate any accessibility needs.

Dementia is the UK's biggest killer. One in three people born in the UK today will develop dementia in their lifetime. At Alzheimer's Society, we're the UK's leading dementia charity and the only one to tackle all aspects of dementia by giving help and hope to people living with dementia today and in the future. We give vital support to people facing the most frightening times of their lives, while also funding groundbreaking research and campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be.
