The Volunteer Management team is responsible for embedding an organisational approach to volunteer engagement which enables volunteers to feel inspired, valued, supported, and connected to the charity. This 12‑month fixed‑term contract provides an opportunity to contribute to the success of the team through coordination of key parts of the volunteer journey: recruiting, induction, training, supporting and retaining volunteers.

The role also involves influencing colleagues, providing advice, and building collaborative relationships with key stakeholders to enhance the volunteer experience and raise its profile internally and externally.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build strong relationships and collaborate with key stakeholders to maximise volunteer opportunities and strengthen volunteer infrastructure.
  • Provide good‑practice advice and guidance on effective volunteer supervision.
  • Promote a positive culture of engagement that values, embeds and promotes the work of volunteers.
  • Proactively gather external events and initiatives, providing advice and support for successful volunteer involvement.
  • Coordinate the review, development and implementation of robust practices and procedures for the volunteer journey.
  • Collaborate on the development and delivery of volunteer training and resources.
  • Maintain and update volunteering information on internal communication channels, ensuring policies and reference materials are current.
  • Produce and distribute recruitment, onboarding and training materials.
  • Deliver high‑level customer service throughout the volunteer journey, including recruitment, induction, training, support, retention and exit.
  • Act as the key point of contact for volunteering data integrity and ensure accuracy and reliability of volunteer records.
  • Lead the recruitment and selection process, fostering equality, diversity and inclusivity.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for internal and external enquiries and coordinate the shared volunteer email inbox.
  • Lead and support the delivery of volunteer‑involving activities at weekend events where required.
What We Are Looking For
  • Strong understanding of volunteer involvement principles and good practice across recruitment, selection, induction, training, support, recognition and retention.
  • Proficiency in IT packages: MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Significant experience recruiting, supporting, engaging and managing volunteers.
  • Experience working within the charity sector.
  • Experience in a customer‑service or people‑facing environment.
  • Experience working with partners and/or external agencies.
  • Experience handling personal (sensitive) data and evaluating volunteer activities.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels within the charity.
  • Excellent communication, networking and presentation skills.
  • Strong negotiating, influencing and problem‑solving skills.
  • Organisational skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Good time‑management skills and a conscientious work approach.
  • Ability to write clear guidance documents that convey complex information.
  • Project management skills and capability to implement and coordinate large projects.
  • Capacity to work under pressure, manage conflicting priorities and changing deadlines.
Additional Information

As part of our Agile way of working you will be required to work approximately 2 days a week from the office, with flexibility to split between home and office. Agile roles do not claim mileage, travel or meals costs.
