This is a significant commercial appointment with a well-established, multi-site UK logistics group undergoing an ambitious period of transformation.

We are looking for an experienced commercial operator to take ownership of the growth agenda across a defined region.

This is a much broader opportunity than a traditional Business Development Manager position, combining new-business development, strategic key-account leadership, regional commercial planning and the potential to build and lead a regional commercial team.

The successful individual will work closely with senior commercial and operational leaders to identify, develop and convert high-quality opportunities across transport, warehousing, distribution, network and wider value-added logistics services.

Crucially, this person will provide the commercial leadership needed to turn opportunities into deliverable and profitable customer solutions.

They will bring the right people together internally, create momentum across different locations and functions, and ensure that commercial commitments can be delivered successfully.

The Role

You will

  • Develop and deliver a clear regional commercial strategy aligned with wider business objectives.
  • Take ownership of selected strategic and high-value customer relationships.
  • Build account plans focused on retention, organic growth, pricing, profitability and cross-selling.
  • Create and convert a strong pipeline of new-business opportunities.
  • Lead complex customer discussions, tenders, proposals and commercial negotiations.
  • Identify opportunities spanning transport, warehousing, contract logistics, network and value-added services.
  • Mobilise operational, finance, solutions and local leadership teams around customer opportunities.
  • Ensure opportunities are properly qualified, costed, approved and successfully handed into implementation.
  • Own regional commercial forecasting, CRM discipline, pipeline quality and performance reporting.
  • Help shape the future regional commercial structure, with the potential to recruit, lead and develop a wider team.
  • The Person

We are looking for a commercially ambitious and experienced logistics professional who can operate strategically while remaining close to customers and delivery.

You are likely to bring

  • A strong background in logistics, transport, warehousing, distribution, supply chain or contract logistics.
  • Experience in a senior business development, regional sales, commercial or key-account leadership position.
  • A successful record of winning new business and developing major existing accounts.
  • Experience of managing complex, high-value and multi-stakeholder customer relationships.
  • Strong commercial judgement across pricing, margin, contractual risk and operational deliverability.
  • The credibility to influence senior operational and functional stakeholders.
  • A collaborative style and the ability to create internal momentum around commercial opportunities.
  • Experience of leading, coaching or developing commercial people, with the capability to build a team.
  • The resilience, pace and pragmatism to succeed within a changing and transforming business.

This opportunity will suit an established Regional Sales Manager or Commercial Manager, or a high-performing senior Business Development or Key Account professional ready to take on a broader leadership remit.

It offers considerable scope to influence regional strategy, strengthen major customer relationships, deliver profitable growth and help shape the future commercial organisation.

Package: Performance-related bonus, car allowance and comprehensive benefits Location: Regional, with regular travel to customer and operational sites
