Responsibilities
- Supporting the implementation of Health & Safety, Environmental, and Quality management systems
- Carrying out site inspections, audits, and behavioural safety observations
- Assisting in developing and reviewing RAMS and safe systems of work
- Supporting incident and near‑miss investigations, focusing on root cause and prevention
- Promoting a strong safety culture and encouraging workforce engagement
- Monitoring environmental performance, including waste, emissions, and pollution prevention
- Supporting quality assurance and compliance with project specifications
- Maintaining accurate SHEQ records and supporting internal and external audits
- Delivering toolbox talks, briefings, and SHEQ training sessions
- Acting as a trusted advisor to site teams and management
Qualifications
- Experience in a SHEQ or Health & Safety role within civil engineering or construction
- Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and CDM Regulations
- NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (or equivalent)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels
- Ability to work independently with a proactive, solutions‑focused approach to risk management
- A hands‑on, practical mindset with strong attention to detail
- Confidence working on‑site and engaging with operational teams
- A collaborative approach, with the ability to challenge unsafe behaviours constructively
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable (but not essential)
- Membership of IOSH (TechIOSH / CertIOSH or working towards)
- Experience working on infrastructure, highways, utilities, or major civil engineering projects
- Familiarity with ISO management systems (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001)
- Experience in incident investigation and auditing
