About the Role:

We're hiring an Underwriter to own risk selection and pricing decisions across our book. You'll bring sharp judgment, deep technical knowledge, and the commercial instincts to balance growth with profitability. This is a hands‑on role with real ownership in a fast‑moving insurance business.

What You'll Do:

  • Assess, price, and bind risks in line with underwriting guidelines and appetite.
  • Review submissions, analyze exposures, and make clear accept/decline/refer decisions.
  • Draft, review, and refine policy wordings, endorsements, and coverage terms.
  • Work closely with brokers and distribution partners to structure deals.
  • Feed insights back into pricing models, guidelines, and product development.
  • Monitor performance of bound business and flag emerging trends.

What We're Looking For:

  • 2–3+ years of underwriting experience at a traditional carrier, MGA, or Lloyd’s syndicate.
  • Strong technical grounding in pricing, risk selection, and policy wording.
  • Exposure to multiple product lines rather than a single narrow specialism.
  • Comfortable interpreting actuarial outputs and applying them commercially.
  • Excellent judgment under uncertainty and willingness to own decisions.
  • Willing and able to work from our office six days per week.

Bonus Points:

  • Portfolio underwriter background: experience underwriting at the portfolio level rather than purely case‑by‑case.
  • Demonstrated experience across multiple product lines (e.g., property, casualty, financial lines, specialty).
  • CII qualifications or progress toward ACII.
  • Experience working with delegated authority arrangements or building underwriting guidelines from scratch.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Base salary of £50,000–£80,000, depending on experience.
  • Equity options.
  • Direct ownership of a critical function in a high‑growth insurance business.
