Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest providers of mental health, learning disability, community physical health and secure services in England. We serve more than 1.4 million people across Cheshire and Merseyside, employ around 12,000 staff, and provide specialist services to a wider population. We are now seeking two experienced and values led individuals to join our Board as Non-Executive Directors. These appointments come at an important time. Mersey Care is a strong organisation, rated good overall by the Care Quality Commission, with outstanding ratings for leadership and caring, and it operates in one of the most pressured systems in the country. We have a capable Board and an experienced executive team, and we are focused on strengthening quality and safety at pace while continuing to develop our culture. We want to widen the range of perspectives around our Board table, and each role brings something distinct.

Non-Executive Director (Clinical)

This role is for a practising or recent clinician who will Chair the Trust's Quality Committee. You will bring recent experience as a senior clinician and genuine depth in quality and safety, together with an understanding of the risks inherent in mental health, learning disability and community services. Experience in these services would be an advantage, however we also welcome applications from clinicians in other settings who bring a sound understanding of mental health, learning disability and autism services and the credibility to lead the Committee.

Non-Executive Director (Community Engagement)

This role is for someone with experience of engaging and working with multi-ethnic communities and staff groups, and using that experience to help influence an organisation's services, values and culture. You will join the Trust's People Committee and help bring the community voice into Board decisions. We are open to candidates from a range of backgrounds and sectors including first time NEDs.

Both roles

For both roles, we are looking for people who share our values and understand public service in practice, in how we work with our staff, service users and communities. You will lead with humility, work collegiately, and keep the focus on Mersey Care and the people we serve. We would particularly welcome candidates who live in, or have a genuine connection to, the North West, and who can commit the time and presence the roles require. We are committed to increasing the diversity of our Board so that it better reflects the communities we serve, and we would particularly welcome applications from individuals who are currently underrepresented at Board level.

If you would welcome a confidential conversation about either role, please contact Thomas Patterson or Simon Green at Alumni Global.
