At AluK, our objective is to deliver exceptional service to customers worldwide. In pursuit of this goal, we are seeking a seasoned IT BI specialist to enhance, oversee, and maintain the AluK global data warehousing architecture. The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in ETL processes, expertise in self‑service reporting set ups, demonstrate a commitment to data security, and exhibit a proactive approach to problem‑solving. This individual will leverage their drive for innovation to improve and extend the AluK data processing and storage platform.

Objectives of the role:

  • Maintaining constant alignment with business unit teams and IT suppliers to ensure we develop the correct tools to support the decision making processes of the company.
  • Be an active member of the IT team by taking the responsibility of the day‑to‑day activities linked to the BI & Data warehouse environments.
  • Be a coach and trainer for your colleagues and business unit teams.
  • Develop, implement and maintain processes that help in creating the most efficient, feature‑rich and secure IT environment.
  • Ensure that planned activities remain on time and within budget.
  • Acquiring the knowledge of the legacy toolset at the business unit to help in defining and implementing a roadmap to migrate away from old technology.

AluK is a maturing company and is in full migration from legacy systems & application landscape to a more centralized and modern architecture landscape. This migration process will take several years to complete. Contrary to other AluK departments, that are organized on a BU (country) level, AluK IT is structured in a global way. As a member of the global IT organization, you also have a responsibility in the support of the local Business unit and their Legacy tools until they are migrated to the centralized tools. This entails that next to your global role you will also have these additional responsibilities:

  • Take required steps to understand, and document if missing, the way legacy IT systems and applications have been set up.
  • Assist with any performance or functional incidents reported by end users and/or monitoring tools.
  • Identify possibilities to proactively monitor legacy applications for performance and/or functional issues.
  • Identify possible scenarios for upgrading the old technology and implement them when approved.
  • Provide input to agree on a roadmap to replace legacy software and systems as soon as possible.

Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of and manage the AluK BI and Datawarehouse, both On‑Premises as well as in the Azure Cloud, environments. This includes all its interactions with other IT competence areas as well.
  • Actively look to identify business needs that could result in improving proprietary tools and systems.
  • Document the BI & Datawarehouse processes and make sure they are kept up to date.
  • Proactively monitor our BI & Datawarehouse IT processes.
  • Support and lead tasks in an agile way.
  • Assist in training, application installation and maintenance.
  • Provide expert technical support to the IT team and users via phone, e‑mail, ServiceDesk portal and in‑person where and when required.
  • Work together with our IT partners for externalized consultancy work.
  • Help and advise in selecting the most relevant tools/techniques to meet specific internal client requirements.

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Data Architecture & Engineering: Design, develop, and maintain scalable data architectures that support enterprise reporting, analytics, and machine learning initiatives.
  • Build and optimize ETL/ELT pipelines using technologies such as Azure Data Factory, SSIS, dbt, and Snowflake.
  • Develop and maintain modern cloud data warehouse solutions, ensuring efficient storage, transformation, and accessibility of data.
  • Create robust SQL and Python‑based data processing solutions to support high‑volume and complex data workloads.
  • Support integration and modelling of data from platforms including SAP S/4HANA, Azure Dataverse, and other enterprise systems.
  • Implement and manage cloud‑based data solutions across Microsoft Azure and Snowflake environments.
  • Work with Azure services including Synapse Analytics, ADLS Gen2, Azure Functions, and Azure Key Vault to support scalable and secure data platforms.
  • Optimize platform performance, reliability, and cost‑efficiency across distributed cloud environments.
  • Support deployment, monitoring, and operational management of data infrastructure and pipelines.
  • Enable enterprise reporting and self‑service analytics through technologies such as Power BI, DAX, and QlikView/Qlik Sense.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver scalable reporting and analytical solutions aligned to business objectives.
  • Support semantic modelling, performance tuning, and data optimization for BI and analytics workloads.

Data Integration, Governance & Quality:

  • Lead the integration of data from multiple internal and third‑party systems into centralized data platforms.
  • Ensure data pipelines and transformations are reliable, maintainable, and scalable.
  • Apply best practices in data governance, security, and compliance across the data estate.
  • Implement and monitor data quality standards to ensure accuracy, consistency, and integrity of enterprise data.
  • Maintain clear documentation and support data lineage and governance processes across the platform.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar Data Engineering, BI, or Data Platform role.

  • Experience integrating enterprise systems such as SAP S/4HANA and third‑party APIs.
  • Excellent understanding of data governance policies, standards, security, data quality, and performance optimization best practices.
  • Experience working in manufacturing environments and international projects is considered an advantage.
