We are seeking a highly organised, detail-driven Commercial Assistant to support the commercial, financial, and administrative functions of a major government contract with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). This is a fast-paced and varied role where accuracy, efficiency, and strong communication are essential.
You will work closely with operational teams, subcontractors, and commercial management to ensure all commercial processes run smoothly, revenue is maximised, and contractual obligations are met. Due to the nature of the contract, this role requires the successful candidate to pass a BPSS security clearance as part of the onboarding process.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Reviewing logged works daily and identifying chargeable reactive, PPM, remedial, and additional works
- Supporting the recovery of out-of-scope costs through CAFM systems and payment applications
- Preparing accurate applications for payment and collating supporting documentation
- Analysing submissions to ensure value for money and contractual compliance
- Working closely with contract teams to ensure all works are billed in line with contract terms
- Managing and resolving work order and invoice queries within agreed timescales
- Supporting commercial reporting and maintaining accurate commercial records
- Monitoring Work in Progress (WIP) levels and highlighting risks or delays
- Processing subcontractor invoices, including validation, reconciliation, and approvals
- Acting as a key point of contact for subcontractor invoice queries and discrepancies
What We’re Looking For
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, data handling)
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively
- Experience working with high-volume data entry and transactional processing
- Strong numerical and analytical ability
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Confident communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a wider team
- Comfortable working under pressure and managing multiple deadlines
- Proactive, adaptable, and motivated approach to work
- Eligibility to pass BPSS security clearance (identity, employment history, criminal record, and right-to-work checks)
