We are pleased to be partnering with a unique, globally focused NGO as it grows its new UK base. The organisation works across governance, policy and global security and is now seeking an Operations Manager to support the continued development of its London operation. This is a broad, hands-on role covering operations, governance, compliance, information management and HR administration. It would suit an experienced operations professional with good people administration experience, or an HR professional looking to broaden into a wider operational role.

About the role

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will help ensure the organisation runs smoothly, securely and compliantly as it grows from around 24 to 40 employees. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing day-to-day operations, governance, compliance, legal and insurance administration
  • Maintaining effective document control, management information and internal processes
  • Managing routine HR administration, including contracts, onboarding, employee records, leave and right-to-work checks
  • Supporting managers and employees with day-to-day people queries
  • Escalating more complex HR matters to the organisation's external HR adviser
  • Coordinating background checks and due diligence
  • Developing practical policies, systems and processes to support organisational growth
  • Identifying operational risks and supporting wider change initiatives

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • Broad operations, office management or organisational administration experience
  • Practical HR and people administration experience
  • Experience working in a start-up, scale-up or growing organisation
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Confidence handling sensitive and confidential information
  • Sound judgement and the ability to know when specialist advice is required
  • A practical, flexible and hands-on approach
  • A genuine interest in working for a mission-driven organisation

Not-for-profit experience is not essential. Experience in a small or growing organisation is more important.

Key details

  • Salary: £65,000
  • Contract: Permanent
  • Location: London office, five days per week
  • Start: As soon as possible
  • Travel: Occasional short European trips

Due to the confidential nature of the organisation's work, discretion is essential and the role is fully office-based. The selection process is expected to include an initial interview, panel interview, practical assessment, psychometric exercise and background checks. Altum Consulting and our client are committed to diversity, equity and inclusion. We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds and experiences.
