Altum are pleased to be partnering with a unique and globally focused NGO as it strengthens its new UK base. Operating at the intersection of independent media, governance, and global security, the organisation channels funding, research and partnership support to organisations working in complex, fast-paced environments. As it transitions from a European structure to a UK-led one, it is seeking an experienced HR Manager to lead on all elements of the employee lifecycle, including strategic planning and advice and guidance to senior leadership.

About the role

The HR Manager will lead the full range of HR activities across the organisation. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the role combines strategic HR input with hands-on delivery. It will support UK-based employees as well as remote staff and consultants internationally.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead HR strategy, policies, and practices aligned with organisational goals
  • Manage end-to-end HR operations, including onboarding, offboarding, and employee relations
  • Ensure compliance with UK employment law and relevant international regulations
  • Lead recruitment processes and support hiring managers
  • Oversee HR systems, payroll coordination, and HR reporting
  • Support reward benchmarking, salary reviews, and workforce planning
  • Promote a positive, inclusive workplace culture

Required experience

  • Proven experience in a senior HR generalist or HR Manager role
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law
  • Experience supporting international or multi-country teams
  • Confidence managing recruitment, employee relations, and HR operations
  • Experience working with HR systems and payroll providers
  • Strong judgement, discretion, and stakeholder management skills
