Financial Accountant | 6-month day rate | £325 to £350 per day
Altum Consulting are partnering with a large retail business to recruit an experienced Financial Accountant for an initial 6-month contract. This role will suit a technically strong Big 4 trained qualified accountant to support across financial reporting, audit readiness, and technical accounting requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review monthly financial reporting, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards
- Support month-end and year-end close processes, including journals, accruals, prepayments, reconciliations, and variance analysis
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and investigate any discrepancies or unusual movements
- Support the preparation of statutory accounts and audit deliverables
- Act as a key point of contact for external auditors, providing supporting documentation and resolving queries
- Ensure financial controls are maintained and processes are followed consistently
- Review accounting treatment across key areas and provide technical accounting guidance where required
- Support tax, VAT, and other regulatory reporting requirements
- Work closely with AP, AR, and wider finance teams to ensure accurate financial information
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and analysis where required
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting, and controls
- Support ad hoc finance projects as required
Candidate Profile
- ACA qualified, or equivalent, ideally trained within a Big 4 firm
- 2+ years' PQE
- Strong technical accounting knowledge
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Strong Excel skills with high attention to detail
- Experience in financial reporting, audit support, and balance sheet review
- Comfortable working with senior stakeholders and international finance teams
