An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Financial Accountant to join a private equity-backed UK consumer business during an exciting period of investment and growth. With significant backing and a clearly defined five-year strategic plan, the organisation is undergoing substantial transformation and expansion. This role offers the opportunity to join a high‑calibre finance team within a business where career progression and development are expected to accelerate as the organisation continues to scale.

Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Financial Accountant will play a key role in maintaining financial control across the business, ensuring balance sheet integrity, supporting statutory reporting and audits, and driving improvements to processes and governance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and post technical and judgemental journals, ensuring the completeness and accuracy of financial records.
  • Take ownership of technical areas of the month‑end close process, ensuring reporting deadlines are consistently achieved.
  • Manage revenue recognition processes, including deferred revenue accounting and reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and group policies, investigating unusual movements and identifying cut‑off risks.
  • Own the balance sheet reconciliation process, maintaining the integrity of the balance sheet through a robust control framework.
  • Implement and maintain a risk‑based approach to reconciliations, ensuring clear ownership, documentation and timely resolution of reconciling items.
  • Investigate and challenge unusual or aged balances, driving transparency and accountability.
  • Support the preparation of statutory accounts and lead the day‑to‑day external audit process.
  • Ensure audit readiness through the maintenance of high‑quality supporting documentation and minimise audit adjustments through robust preparation.
  • Prepare technical accounting papers and provide support on complex or unusual transactions.
  • Manage lease accounting under FRS 102 and ensure compliance with accounting policies and group reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns, including ownership of partial exemption and reverse charge processes.
  • Liaise with external advisors on technical tax matters and maintain VAT control accounts.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance balance sheet transparency, strengthen controls and improve month‑end efficiency.
Candidate Profile
  • Fully qualified ACA or ACCA, or exam‑qualified with relevant experience.
  • Ideally trained within an audit environment, with experience gained either in practice or industry.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and an understanding of financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience supporting statutory reporting and external audits.
  • High attention to detail with a proactive and solutions‑focused approach.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • A cooperative approach and the ability to thrive within a busy, evolving environment.
