Altum Consulting are partnering with an established, London-based retail business to recruit an experienced Assistant Accountant. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive finance team in a fast-paced environment.

The Role

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will play a key role in supporting month-end, reporting, and financial control activities. This position offers broad exposure across finance, working closely with multiple departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support month-end and year-end close processes, including accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, FX journals, and reconciliations
  • Prepare weekly and monthly sales reporting, including regional performance analysis
  • Assist in management accounts preparation, including OPEX reviews and variance analysis
  • Produce and maintain balance sheet reconciliations for Finance Manager review
  • Calculate and manage commission payments across Europe and APMEA regions
  • Perform credit control duties, including chasing outstanding debt and liaising with internal stakeholders
  • Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns, with supporting reconciliations
  • Assist with year-end audit processes and audit pack preparation
  • Respond to customer payment queries and support account accuracy reviews
  • Work closely with Accounts Payable on cash allocation and reconciliations
  • Support ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting as required
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Quality, and Environmental standards

About You

  • Part qualified (ACCA/CIMA)
  • Strong Excel skills (essential)
  • Solid understanding of double-entry accounting principles
  • Experience working in a multi-currency environment
  • Proven experience with VAT returns
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
