Altro are looking for an experienced and motivated Health & Safety Advisor to join our manufacturing site in Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire. This is an excellent opportunity for a health and safety professional who enjoys being visible on the shop floor, building strong relationships with colleagues, and making a genuine difference to workplace safety.
You'll play a key role in supporting our Zero Harm strategy, helping to ensure that everyone goes home safe every day. You'll provide practical advice and guidance to managers and employees, ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation while continually looking for ways to improve standards, reduce risk, and promote a positive safety culture.
In this role, you'll be responsible for carrying out audits, inspections and risk assessments, investigating accidents, incidents and near misses, and ensuring that effective corrective actions are put in place. You'll help develop and maintain safe systems of work, analyse safety performance data, deliver training and awareness sessions, and work with external auditors and regulatory bodies when required.
Just as importantly, you'll be a visible and influential presence across the site, encouraging safe behaviours, challenging unsafe practices, and helping colleagues take ownership of health and safety.
We're looking for someone with a NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent Level 3 qualification) and membership of IOSH at TechIOSH or GradIOSH level. You'll have previous experience in a Health & Safety role within a manufacturing, engineering, logistics, warehousing or similar operational environment, together with a good understanding of UK health and safety legislation. You'll be confident carrying out investigations, audits and risk assessments, and comfortable communicating with people at all levels of the business.
The ideal candidate will be proactive, approachable and self-motivated, with the ability to influence others and drive positive change. Experience delivering health and safety training, working with ISO 45001 management systems, or leading behavioural safety initiatives would be advantageous, although not essential.
As well as an exciting opportunity and a competitive salary, we offer:
- Hybrid working – providing flexibility around both home and office (min 3 days in the office)
- Starting holiday entitlement of 25 days, with the option to buy more
- Defined contribution pension scheme
- Life assurance from day one
- Occupational Sick Pay and onsite Occupational Health Service
- Confidential 24-hour life management and personal support service for you and your family

- Various social events, including the company Christmas party
- Retirement advice and support
