The Role
We are seeking a senior leader with a strong mechanical background to join our leadership team as Project Director. This is a high-impact role with accountability for multiple major EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) projects across the UK.
You will provide strategic direction, governance, and operational oversight across the full project lifecycle — ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient delivery. Beyond execution, you will play a pivotal role in shaping business growth, driving innovation, and developing a high-performing culture across construction teams.
Key Responsibilities

- Oversee a portfolio of EPC projects, ensuring delivery to time, cost, quality, and safety standards.
- Drive operational excellence, standardisation, and continuous improvement across multi-site construction teams.
- Take executive accountability for safety, compliance, quality assurance, and regulatory engagement.
- Partner with executive leadership, engineering, and procurement functions to optimise project integration and performance.
- Lead and mentor senior construction managers, developing talent pipelines and succession plans.
- Manage financial performance, including project budgets, forecasts, and resource planning.
- Represent Altrad at senior client engagements, industry forums, and regulatory bodies.
Key Requirements
- Experience in mechanical engineering and piping disciplines (design, construction, or maintenance) is essential, with significant senior leadership experience.
- Proven track record of overseeing large-scale EPC construction projects in highly regulated industries (nuclear experience highly desirable).
- Strong business acumen, with experience in budget management, commercial strategy, and operational governance.
- Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and manage large, multi-disciplinary teams.
- Skilled at stakeholder engagement, from client C-suites through to regulatory authorities.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver strategic change, innovation, and cultural transformation.
Qualifications
- Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
- Executive-level leadership training or certifications (e.g., MBA, Chartered Engineer status) advantageous.
- Relevant industry accreditations (PMP, NEBOSH, SMSTS, etc.) valued.
Why Join Us?
- Play a key role in shaping the future of the UK’s most critical infrastructure projects.
- Competitive executive package with bonus, pension, car allowance, and healthcare.
- Lead transformational projects at the forefront of the nuclear and energy transition industries.
