Alto Software Group is a B2B SaaS company that powers more than half of all UK housing transactions each year. We create software solutions that connect businesses and consumers, delivering a one-stop shop for estate agents and home builders. Our goal is to drive efficiency, speed up transactions, reduce risk, and improve the end-customer experience. While we're not a start-up, we have a start-up mindset and want our people to operate with this mindset so that we can achieve our ambitions.
The Role
We are looking for a Management Accountant to take full ownership of the management accounts for all Alto Software Group entities. This is an exciting time to join the ASG finance team - we're on a journey to become a standalone, private equity-owned company working towards an exit process, and this role will work closely with colleagues across the broader ZPG group along the way. You'll also support the Commercial Finance team, giving you strong commercial exposure and high visibility with senior Finance leadership through ad hoc projects.
What You'll Do
Month-end close and management accounts
Month-end close and management accounts Take full ownership of month-end close for all ASG legal entities, delivered to the group close timetable, including preparing and posting revenue and cost-related adjustments. Own the ASG management accounts, with a review and sign-off boundary agreed with the Financial Controller. Report and analyse revenue, staff costs, capitalised development costs and overhead spend, including variance analysis against budget and forecast with written commentary. Complete balance sheet reconciliations for all ASG entities, including AR control and clearing accounts, accruals, prepayments and intangibles. Prepare the quarterly VAT returns and supporting workings. Work with the ASG finance team and Finance Systems to continuously improve the close - shortening the cycle, reducing manual intervention and strengthening controls. Support and mentor the Finance Assistant on junior management accounting tasks, and review their output.
Technical and statutory accounting
Apply IFRS 15 revenue recognition for a subscription business, including deferred revenue, unbilled usage, contract modifications and partner arrangements - working with the teams who own billing execution on data integrity where it affects the accounting. Calculate and support capitalised development costs under IAS 38, including the effort and cost basis, amortisation and the supporting evidence for audit. Apply group accounting policies more broadly, including IFRS 16 leases and IFRS 9 expected credit losses. Support the Financial Controller on the year-end statutory accounts for ASG's legal entities under FRS 101, and act as day-to-day contact for external auditors on management accounting deliverables.
Sales commission
Take end-to-end ownership of the commission model: maintaining the mechanics, calculating monthly and quarterly payments, and producing the accrual and true-up entries. Work with Commercial Finance and Sales leadership on target setting and plan design, and model the cost impact of proposed changes before they're adopted. Act as the point of contact for individual commission queries from the Sales team. Maintain the underlying reporting from Salesforce and Zuora that the calculation depends on, including clawback and cancellation treatment.
Commercial finance and sponsor reporting
Partner with Commercial Finance on revenue and ARR reporting, and on the monthly reporting pack that goes to the ASG SLT. Contribute to budgeting, forecasting and KPI modelling to support strategic decision-making. Support exit readiness and diligence workstreams, and ad hoc projects including corporate restructuring and finance systems implementation.
What You Need to Be Successful
- Qualified accountant, with strong PQE.
- Effective stakeholder management skills, with experience working with operational and commercial sides of the business (including commission schemes).
- Experience working in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong communication and presentational skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- A strong team player and self-starter who takes full accountability for their work.
- Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
Nice to have: experience with NetSuite or Zuora, exposure to SaaS revenue recognition/subscription billing, systems implementation, and budgeting, forecasting and financial modelling.
There's always room to grow and learn with our roles - please don't be put off if you don't have all of these. It's more important that you're passionate about improving the home moving and owning experience for everyone.
Why Join Alto?
This role sits at the heart of ASG's journey to become a standalone, PE-backed business working towards an exit - giving you exposure to exit readiness, diligence and corporate restructuring work that few finance roles offer. You'll have full ownership of the management accounts and the commission m
