Our client, a respected steel fabrication specialist based in Widnes, is looking to appoint a skilled and proactive Project Engineer to support their growing workload. This is a key technical role, ideal for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced fabrication environment and enjoys taking full ownership of projects from initial enquiry through to production.
The Role
Working closely with both office and workshop teams, you will be responsible for preparing, programming, and coordinating a wide range of fabrication projects. This position blends CAD/CAM programming, project coordination, and client interaction, ensuring jobs are accurately prepared and delivered smoothly into production.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce and develop technical drawings using AutoCAD (or similar)
- Generate and optimise CNC plasma programs using CAM/nesting software (Fusion 360)
- Interpret customer requirements and convert drawings into production‑ready data
- Manage projects from enquiry through to completion
- Prepare estimates, quotations, and material requirements
- Oversee workflow, job progress, and documentation via the company CRM
- Liaise with workshop teams to support production and resolve technical issues
- Source and order materials to meet project timelines
- Drive continuous improvement in programming efficiency and material usage
About You
- Proven CAD/CAM programming experience within fabrication or manufacturing
- Strong understanding of CNC machining, plasma cutting, and G‑code
- Confident interpreting complex engineering drawings
- Solid mechanical and fabrication knowledge
- Experience managing projects or workflow independently
- Commercial awareness (estimating, materials, job costing) is highly desirable
- Highly organised, proactive, and comfortable working under pressure
- Able to work between office and workshop environments
- Full UK driving licence
- Based within commuting distance of Widnes
