At Altery, we're building products that make finance feel seamless in a fragmented world. We build the technology that helps businesses and people move money across borders, currencies and digital assets, without the friction.
Behind every simple payment is a complex system, and a team that makes it work. We look for people who enjoy solving difficult problems, challenge each other with respect and care about doing great work.
We're now looking for a UK-based Compliance Officer to join our Compliance team as part of our Second Line of Defence. You'll test how well our controls really work, give practical advice to the business and help keep Altery Ltd safe, compliant and fair to customers as we grow.
What you'll be doing at Altery
- Plan and deliver compliance monitoring reviews: agree the scope, risk assessment, sampling approach and test programme, carry out the fieldwork and issue clear reports on time.
- Record findings with a clear root cause, risk impact, rating, owner and target date, follow remediation through and validate or re-test actions before recommending closure.
- Escalate material issues and unresolved disagreements to the Head of Monitoring and Testing and the UK MLRO / Head of Compliance.
- Act as a Second Line of Defence point of contact, giving practical, risk-based advice to Product, Customer Operations, IT and other teams on e‑money, payments, conduct, AML/CTF, sanctions and Consumer Duty.
- Help interpret FCA rules and guidance, and assess what new products, markets and customer journeys mean for us, including for vulnerable customers.
- Run horizon scanning on regulatory developments, assess their impact and keep our regulatory change trackers and plans up to date.
- Prepare accurate MI, dashboards and reports for senior management and Risk and Compliance Committees, and support regulatory returns, supervisory reviews and audits.
- Draft and maintain compliance policies and procedures, and help build a strong compliance culture while keeping your independence from the First Line.
What you'll bring to us
Must-haves
- Proven experience in a compliance, financial crime, AML or regulatory compliance role in financial services, fintech, payments or an e‑money institution.
- Experience conducting compliance reviews, monitoring activities and risk assessments, as well as giving advisory support and working on regulatory change.
- A strong understanding of UK AML/CTF requirements, FCA rules, Consumer Duty, sanctions requirements and industry guidance, including JMLSG.
- Experience supporting regulatory engagement, supervisory reviews, audits or regulatory reporting.
- Experience drafting and maintaining compliance policies, procedures and governance documentation.
- The ability to turn complex regulation into clear, practical advice, and to challenge constructively when needed.
- The right to work in the UK.
Nice to have
- Experience building or supporting compliance frameworks in a regulated environment.
- Experience designing test programmes and sampling approaches for compliance monitoring.
How you work
- You aim for excellence: you care about accuracy, and your findings and reports stand up to scrutiny.
- You take ownership: you follow every finding through to real remediation, not just a closed ticket.
- You collaborate: you build good relationships with the business while keeping your independence and objectivity.
How we value you
Here’s what you can expect when you join Altery:
- Competitive compensation that rewards your contribution.
- Flexible working. Wherever you are, you work your local hours with flexibility, and we all come together during core hours, 9am-2pm UK time. Near a hub? We'd love to see you from time to time, but we care more about outcomes than office hours.
- Wellbeing support, including additional sick leave when you need it.
- Opportunities to grow your career by taking ownership, expanding your skills and making a real impact.
- A team that has your back: we're team players, not solo stars. People here are quick to help and ready to collaborate.
- Ownership from day one: you're trusted to make decisions, try new things and lead from wherever you are.
- Built by a global team: our team spans countries, cultures and time zones, and those different perspectives help us build for customers around the world.
- High standards, continuous growth: you'll be encouraged to learn, challenge assumptions and help raise the bar.
- Resilient by design: we're a startup, so we don't expect easy days, we expect progress. When challenges come, you'll never face them alone.
We celebrate our diversity: its power strengthens our team. We welcome applications from everyone, whatever your background, and we hire based on skills, experience and the difference you can make.
We treat your personal data with care and use it only for recruitment. Applications are processed through our hiring platform, HiBob. To find out how your data is handled, read the Bob Hiring privacy notice.
