The predicted salary is between 84160 - 84160 £ per year.

This Senior Civil Design Engineer will report to the Principal Civil Design Engineer and will work within UKPNS based in our Heathrow office. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of £84,160 and a bonus of 3%. This role can also offer blended working after probationary period (6 months) – 3 days in the office and 2 remote.

  • General Requirements
  • Production of civil and structural designs for tender, construction, and commissioning of electricity networks assets.
  • Ensure the designs produced eliminate or reduce hazards which may give rise to risks.
  • Contribute with the development of designs from inception to commissioning.
  • Ensure compliance with design assurance and audit processes.
  • Oversee and contribute to the production of technical, commercial, and contractual documents for procurement of engineering products.
  • Assess and confirm suitability of third‑party construction works impacting electricity network assets.
  • Comply with CDM regulations and fulfil the role of Principal Designer for allocated schemes.
  • Provide technical liaison with suppliers and clients for the successful delivery of projects.
  • Production of civil designs in accordance with engineering standards, policies, and procedures of UK Power Networks Services and to the latest British Standards, ESQCR, the Building Regulations, fire safety rules.
  • Support and mentor Trainee/Graduate/Engineers to enhance their technical knowledge and experience.
  • Principal Accountabilities
  • Deal with specialist consultants and civil contractors during the design and construction phases
  • Work in close coordination with structural and electrical engineers, quantity surveyors and CAD technicians.
  • Resolve civil engineering challenges and provide a sound understanding of airports engineering standards and construction policies.
  • Awareness of current and technological developments in civil / structural engineering for airports.
  • Ability to coordinate works with external consulting engineering organisations.
  • Ability to work independently and unsupervised; set own targets, identify and implement innovative cost saving solutions.
  • Strong team player in a dedicated team of designers, estimators, and planners.
  • Safety culture and understanding of CDM and their application in this role. IOSH training would be beneficial.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

  • Civil Engineering degree level or equivalent with proven experience in substation/OHL/cable design.
  • Civil engineering background and relevant experience in building works preferably within the Utility sector.
  • Manage and communicate packages of work for the CAD team to develop.
  • Knowledge of the Planning Application system in England.
  • Strong knowledge of Auto CAD.
  • Experience of building services.
  • Beneficial experience: roadworks, drainage, structural steel works, cable routes, cable trenches, installation of power cables, substation buildings, structures to support outdoor distribution equipment, fences and high security features, secondary oil containment, building services, ventilations systems, fire suppression systems, drainage systems.
  • Knowledge of the ISO 9001:200 and ISO 14001 procedures relevant to the team activities.
  • Capable of sign off designs.
  • Chartered engineer or close to become a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
