This Assistant Projects Surveyor will report to the Consent Lead SPN and will work within Capital Programme - Major Projects Consents & Stakeholder Engagement based in our Crawley or Maidstone office. You will be a permanent employee.
You will attract a salary of £48,218 plus car and a bonus of 3%. This role can also offer blended working after probationary period (6 months) - 3 days in the office and 2 remote.

Job Purpose:
To obtain the necessary consents associated with CPP instructions within a defined geographic footprint. The Assistant Projects Surveyor will report directly to the Major Projects Consent Manager. You will be responsible for the acquisition of legal acquisition and the disposal of operational property freeholds and leaseholds, easements, statutory consents and wayleaves associated with Alliance and Major Connections projects.
Dimensions:
- No direct reports, supporting colleagues within Major projects Consents team, project Managers, Designers and Alliance staff.
- Undertake a 2 year internal training plan supported by the Consents Lead and Senior Surveyor.
With guidance, we undertake discussions with grantors, land agents, solicitors and consultants concerning the installation, retention, or alteration of UK Power Networks network infrastructure within Capital programme. With guidance, you will make justifiable decisions after consulting with Project Managers, Consents surveyors, and with the Consent Manager. This will be about financial commitments, strategy and legal matters in association with APP and Major Connections projects. With guidance, manage instructions to Network's Solicitor or external solicitors/partners.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Implement Consents strategy with support.
- Report important performance measures.
- Implement processes concerning legal acquisition, land consenting, planning consents and environmental consenting. This includes but is not limited to the acquisition of new freehold or leasehold operational property, deeds of grant, wayleaves, Permitted development, planning consent and other environmental and statutory consents.
- Work with UK Power Networks' legal team, providing general legal and practical advice regarding the consents strategies in the Capital delivery portfolios.
- Maintain important external stakeholder relationships, in particular with major grantors and their agents, Planning Authorities and Statutory undertakers.
- Represent Consents at meetings or workshops.
- Promote and help to develop an outstanding team culture, great working relationships and communications within the team and across the Business.
- Ensure own safety by applying appropriate risk assessments and using PPE correctly on all occasions.
Measures of Success:
- To meet all individual coaching requirements and performance targets.
- Deliver all consents related projects with support.
Qualifications Required:
- GCSE Math's, English, Science Grade C and above (or equivalent).
- A Levels, Level 4 or 96 UCAS points equivalent or willingness to obtain equivalent.
- High levels of Safety awareness and principles.
- Awareness of corporate and business practice.
- Communicate at all levels and have interpersonal awareness and ability to evidence pro social behaviours.
- Excellent public relations, negotiating and influencing skills.
- Aspirations to be self-motivated and evidence personal and professional development.
Desirable But Not Essential (training Will Be Provided):
- Utilities Consenting (advantageous) and a technical understanding concerning the legal aspects of operational property and wayleaves consents, planning consenting process and environmental consenting.
- Surveying experience or qualification.
- Knowledge of property and utilities consenting issues.
- Working knowledge of agriculture to help negotiations of compensation claims.
- An understanding of valuation principles to land and property.
- Awareness of primary and secondary legislation concerning utilities' operations; such as statutory instruments affecting electricity transmission and distribution assets.
- Awareness of relationships between stakeholders in the electricity utility businesses – including government, environmental, statutory authorities and business departments and customers.
