This Asset Engineer will report to the Asset Strategy Manager and will work within the Asset Management directorate based in our Crawley office. You will be a permanent employee.
Salary: £65,241, bonus: 3%. Blended working arrangement after 6 months probation: 3 days in office, 2 remote.

Job Purpose:
The Asset Management Directorate's primary role is to help ensure UK Power Networks is equipped to tackle the regulatory challenges of RIIO-ED2 and future periods. Our aim is to be regarded as an industry leader, and as such, we are looking for engineering talent with the vision and motivation to lead the change. The Asset Strategy team develops, implements, and oversees the delivery of inspection, maintenance and asset replacement/refurbishment strategies for all asset types.
Principal Accountabilities:
- You will develop asset policies and standards.
- Prepare programmes of work for inspection and maintenance activities by using available data.
- You will contribute to the budgeting of these programmes of work reconciling volumes, unit costs and budget provision.
- You will track progress and reporting on the delivery status of the programmes of work.
- Prepare business cases and seek financial approval at the appropriate stage of development of the respective projects.
- Provide asset management guidance and technical support to Network Operations and the wider business.
- You will support the collation and production of regulatory submissions - information and commentary.
- Carry out asset fault rate analysis.
- Carrying out network incident reviews/investigations.
- You will provide support during system emergencies (storm role).
Qualifications:
- Ideally qualified with a Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Asset Management or other related subject.
- Safety management qualification such as IOSH certificate or equivalent.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations.
- An understanding of the design and operation of relevant assets, particularly the inspection & maintenance requirements.
- Membership of a professional body such as the IET or IAM or working towards professional recognition.
- Ability to communicate at senior level to obtain and present information in a clear form.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications, including Word, Power-point, Excel and Outlook.
- Experience analysing and reporting on complex data.
- Experience using data processing/dashboard applications such as Microsoft PowerBI.
- Good written skills, to produce concise reports and presentations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to ensure effective interaction with all partners.
You will demonstrate technical competence and experience. These could have been gained through a previous job role, or through managing a range of complex and diverse projects. You will understand the design, operation and failure mode of the electrical assets owned and operated by UK Power Networks. You will promote enhanced safety performance and behaviours that reduce risks to the public and employees. You will exhibit a customer service ethos, both internally and externally and shall deliver against challenging budgets and timescales.
Experience in Specific Areas:
- Knowledge of electrical network assets either through operational experience or by other means.
- Knowledge of underground cable assets.
- Knowledge of power system protection.
- Knowledge of grid and primary substation assets.
- Knowledge of secondary substation assets.
- Knowledge of the overhead line network.
- Knowledge of instrumentation, control and telemetry equipment.

Should you not currently possess the full range of essential skills, qualifications and competencies listed above, there may be an opportunity for further training to equip the successful candidate appropriately. If the successful candidate does not possess all relevant competencies for the core grade, it may be appropriate to appoint at a lower grade until they have developed the required competencies.
