The predicted salary is between 65000 - 68000 £ per year.

This Operational Engineer will report to the Lead Operational Engineer and will work within UK Power Networks Services Projects East based in our Bury St Edmunds office. You will be a permanent employee. You will attract a salary of £65,241 plus car and a bonus of 3%. If you are successful, you will need to undertake a medical and DBS reference check.

Job Purpose:

You will work with and support the Client Delivery Manager and Lead Operational Engineer in the delivery of our goals and Clients requirements. Work with other Engineers, Technicians, Apprentices and Contractors to undertake and complete the construction or maintenance activities in a safe and efficient manner whilst minimising disruption to our clients electricity supplies. You will ensure delivery of Client-focused Capital Construction projects and maintenance plans as directed by the Lead Operational Engineer. You will oversee the management of substation and cabling construction and maintenance works on designated Client private and DNO networks Infrastructure. You will work with team members to ensure safety management is maintained throughout all activities during the delivery of the engineering tasks following the UK Power Networks Services Stay Safe initiative.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Deliver the Construction and Maintenance programmes for the UK Power Networks Services owned assets operating at voltages through the range 11/33kV to 400V.
  • Work with the Lead Operational Engineer to ensure that all programmes of work are delivered to time and budget following contractual commitments to time, cost and quality.
  • Work with Technicians, Jointers and Apprentices to ensure the delivery of all engineering activities.
  • Help manage budgets relating to the construction and maintenance delivery and meet ongoing goals.
  • As a team member work to ensure that UK Power Networks Services goals are achieved especially in Staff and Client satisfaction.
  • Follow Client and UK Power Networks Services Operations and Procedures.
  • Operate HV and LV Distribution Protection Systems.
  • Testing and Commissioning of HV and LV Distribution System. Private and DNO.
  • Ensure compliance with CDM and UK Power Networks Services Health and Safety policies.
  • Develop site specific HS&E procedures.
  • Compliance with UK Power Networks Services quality policies.
  • Operate and update Asset database in respect of project activities.
  • Responsible for both reactive and planned maintenance activities.
  • Perform fault investigation and repairs.
  • Modify equipment and drawings to ensure the efficient operation of the substations.
  • Ensure the compliance with the distribution safety rules during all activities.
  • Oversee all contractors/staff working on site.
  • Ensure that staff and contractors are aware of all safety and environmental issues and adopt safe working practices concerning projects carried out under your guidance.
  • Collate, approve, finalise and red line project as built drawings.
  • Undertake additional activities determined by the job level and competency.
  • Must be willing to travel across all of UKPN footprint.

Nature And Scope:

You will work with the Client Delivery Manager, Lead Operational Engineers, other team members, and managers. As a team player, you will work within a pressurised environment, focusing on the delivery of construction and maintenance works to time and quality, and to our client's satisfaction.

Co‑ordinate daily construction and maintenance activities with Client / Principal Contractor's ensuring programmes are met. Obtain quotations from suppliers and raise Purchase Order request with Finance & Governance teams. Change Management – ensure early warning notices are brought to the attention of the Client Delivery Manager / and Project Managers. Identify potential project risks/opportunities (raise awareness within team / company). Look for continuous improvement. Required to participate in a standby rota and work additional hours to maintain the supplies to our client infrastructure. Work unsocial hours to respond to faults on system. Assist the Lead Operational Engineer in the development of the ongoing NAMP. Undertake the delivery of maintenance and construction activities to meet client requirements within their area of authorisation. Represent UKPNS at meetings with clients and contractors. When undertaking engineering activities manage the team of employees and contractors for the delivery. When undertaking engineering activities manage the compliance with all H&S procedures such as Putting People to Work and Distribution Safety Rules. Work with other team members to perform activities such as switchgear, battery and transformer maintenance, substation inspection cleaning and painting.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Senior Authorised Person as defined by the Distribution Safety Rules up to 11kv.
  • ONC - Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Security clearance for Client infrastructure Access.
  • Medical and Drugs and Alcohol screening.
  • Working knowledge of distribution HV Systems.
  • Knowledge of Building Services Systems.
  • Read drawings and understand content.
  • Work in different environments.
  • Excellent analytical, organisation and planning skills.
  • Identify problems, understand important issues and investigate alternatives.
  • Hold full driving licence.
  • Use Microsoft Office suite, Outlook, MS Project and other custom software packages.

Desirable:

  • A broad understanding of UK Power Networks Services businesses.
  • Authorised Person as defined by the Distribution Safety Rules up to 33kV.
  • HNC electrical engineering.
  • NEBOSH.
  • Knowledge of UK Power Networks Services PC&G process.
  • Meet deadlines.
  • To be skilful in decision-making.
  • Knowledge of Construction Design and Management Regulations.
