This CAD Design Technician will report to the Design Lead and will work within the Capital Programme directorate based in our Bury St Edmunds office. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of £56,576.00 and a bonus of 3%. This role can also offer blended working after probationary period (6 months) - 3 days in the office and 2 remote.

Job Purpose:

You will help produce civil, electrical and circuit drawings observing designs produced by Civil and Electrical Engineers. You will comply with the company standard code of practice and relevant European codes of practice. These schemes would be for the Capital Programme Connections Portfolio, however interaction with APP and/or Diversions (non-contestable and contestable) works could be possible.

You will collaborate with the Circuit/OHL designer, Electrical designer, Civil designer and Principal Design Coordinator, ensuring compliance to design, CDM and relevant standards for both the regulated network solutions for all customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Undertake civil sub-station drawings following the standards and company Code of Practice.
  • Undertake circuit/OHL drawings and diversion drawings in line with the standards and company Code of Practice.
  • Undertake electrical sub-station drawings following the standards and company Code of Practice.
  • Communicate with specific engineers regarding drawing requirements to ensure technical information supplied is correctly interpreted onto the drawings.
  • You will assist the Design Clerk with Document Control of drawings produced.
  • Support assurance and audit processes.
  • Comply with the requirements of the designer as determined by the CDM Regulations (as amended in 2015).

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Be familiar with and follow Quality Assurance procedures and company drawing standards.
  • Proficient in the use of the AutoDesk AutoCAD and knowledge of Bentley Microstation CAD package and AutoDesk Construction Cloud drawing/document management system (with at least 3 years experience).
  • The ability to create, open, edit and close complex two-dimensional drawings using AutoDesk AutoCAD and Bentley MicroStation V8.
  • To use many of the additional features of AutoCAD and MicroStation including cells, levels, locks, tags, snaps, models, sheets, patterns, dimensions, references, scanned images, level symbology, etc.
  • To understand and apply the drawing conventions appropriate to the type of drawing – i.e. electrical symbols.
  • A grounding in IT technology and Microsoft Office software.
  • The ability to find additional information from the internet or intranet.
  • A broad understanding of the principles of electrical and circuit detailing (SLD symbols, OS Mapping).
  • Good safety culture and understanding of Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations and their application in this role.
  • Work unsupervised and comply with targets set for allocated tasks.
  • Provide an excellent service to the customer.
  • Work as a Team Player in a dedicated team of Designers, Estimators and Planners.
  • Competent in written and oral communications.
  • A Levels, NVQ Level 3 or good GCSEs are a must, as is a willingness to work towards further qualifications.

Desirable:

  • To use our drawing management system – AutoDesk Construction Cloud.
  • Previous working experience on electrical, cable and Overhead Line infrastructure would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of the ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001 procedures relevant to the teams' activities would be beneficial.
  • Input ideas and techniques, which feed into UK Power Networks Green Action Plan.

Nature And Scope:

Largely desk based, the post also requires you to visit operational sites, construction sites, site meetings, manufacturers meetings (at their premises) and internal review meetings.
