Team Overview: The Estimating department plays a crucial role in the pre-construction phase, producing accurate and competitive cost estimates for mechanical and electrical building services projects. Drawing on technical drawings, specifications, and supplier pricing, the team assesses project requirements and risks to develop detailed, commercially viable proposals. Their work supports the business in securing new contracts by ensuring that tenders are both competitive and aligned with client expectations and company capabilities.
Role Overview: Reporting to the Lead Estimator, the Estimating Coordinator will play a key supporting role within the estimating team, helping to coordinate tender information, organise documentation, maintain price lists and assist in the preparation of quotations and cost submissions. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career within the construction or MEP sector, with full training and development provided.
The successful candidate does not need previous estimating experience; however, they should be highly organised, proactive, and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment. Experience within construction, MEP coordination, document control, or administration would be advantageous.
The role will involve supporting the Lead Estimator with:
- Reviewing tender enquiries
- Coordinating project information
- Liaising with suppliers and internal departments
- Maintaining accurate records
- Assisting with the preparation of pricing documentation and submissions
Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and confidence in using Microsoft Office packages, particularly Excel, are essential.
What You'll be Doing:
- Marking up tender drawings for review as part of tender submissions
- Reviewing quotation and tender enquiry packs to ensure all relevant information is available for accurate pricing
- Liaising with clients to obtain additional information or clarifications where required
- Working closely with document control to ensure all relevant documentation is saved and accessible
- Collaborating with the line manager to review received information and agree on the estimating approach
- Reviewing and taking off drawings to support the preparation of accurate tender costs
- Assisting in obtaining equipment quotations and collating these into Excel cost sheets for review
- Supporting the preparation of clear and comprehensive quotation submissions, including summaries of assumptions, inclusions, and exclusions
- Maintaining and updating standard estimating price lists
- Undertaking any other duties deemed necessary by management
