The Design department is responsible for developing innovative, practical, and fully coordinated mechanical and electrical building services solutions tailored to each project. Working closely with clients, project teams, and the BIM department, the design team transforms concepts into detailed, build–ready technical designs that meet regulatory standards, client specifications, and sustainability goals. Their work underpins the technical accuracy and efficiency of our installations, ensuring seamless integration from planning through to construction.
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer Placement Student to provide practical, real–world mechanical engineering experience within the rapidly growing alternative energy and low carbon heat sector. You will be supported by an established mechanical and electrical design team and will gain exposure to mechanical design, coordination, site activity and commissioning, helping you understand how projects move from concept through to operation.
The role involves preparing mechanical design proposals, including installation drawings, plant selection, and technical schedules, as well as carrying out heating and hot water load calculations to ensure accurate plant sizing. Responsibilities also include developing project–specific BMS control drawings and operating descriptions, undertaking site surveys and reports, attending design meetings, and supporting commissioning activities in collaboration with contracts managers and commissioning teams. The work is delivered as part of a collaborative design team using modern AutoCAD and MEP 3D design tools.
