The opportunity has arisen to join an industry leader within the energy saving sector as a Health, Safety & Environmental Manager (HSE). Alternative Heat specialise in the design, offsite prefabrication, modularisation, and onsite installation of prefabricated mechanical and electrical services for new build Data Centre and Decarbonisation projects throughout Europe, with a core focus on mechanical fit–out and supply of pre–packaged mechanical and electrical plantrooms.
The HSE Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive safety and environmental programs to ensure a safe and compliant workplace within our manufacturing and assembly facilities. This role involves monitoring regulatory compliance, minimising workplace hazards, promoting a culture of safety, and ensuring environmental standards are met or exceeded. The candidate will collaborate closely with our in–house teams, throughout client engagement and all stages of construction to develop and deliver effective HSE management arrangements.
These arrangements will ensure compliance with both client–specific and legal requirements, guaranteeing the safe on–site fabrication and assembly of prefabricated solutions. Beyond maintaining existing standards, the candidate will be expected to drive continuous improvement through both established best practices and innovative approaches, with a strong emphasis on behavioural safety. Leading by example, the candidate will foster a robust safety culture within the team and across all projects, inspiring commitment to health, safety, and environmental excellence.
As the primary HSE liaison for our facilities, the Health, Safety & Environmental Manager will establish strong relationships through regular site visits, providing dedicated support and expert guidance on all HSE matters. Reporting to the Head of Health & Safety, the HSE Manager will work closely with project delivery teams, client representatives, and the wider HSE department to ensure a safe, compliant, and sustainable operating environment within this rapidly growing sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain HSE policies, procedures, and programs aligned with legal requirements, industry standards, and client expectations for manufacturing and assembly operations across multiple sites.
- Identify, recruit, and onboard qualified Health and Safety Officers to build a competent and motivated HSE team aligned with company values and project demands.
- Design and implement ongoing training programs to enhance the technical skills, regulatory knowledge, and leadership capabilities of Health and Safety Officers.
- Provide hands–on mentoring and support to team members, fostering professional growth and confidence in their roles.
- Regularly conduct performance reviews, set clear objectives, and encourage continuous improvement.
- Effectively allocate and manage the team's resources across multiple projects and sites to maintain consistent HSE oversight and timely response to issues.
- Promote open communication within the team and with other departments.
- Establish clear expectations and accountability for Health and Safety Officers.
- Implement quality control measures to monitor the effectiveness of safety interventions.
Essential Criteria:
- Demonstrable experience as an HSE Manager (5 years minimum) or similar role within manufacturing and assembly facilities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of local, national, and international HSE regulations and standards relevant to manufacturing and assembly operations.
- Familiarity with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, OSHA standards, and environmental compliance requirements.
- Relevant certifications such as NEBOSH or International Diploma and equivalent environmental qualifications.
- Experience in leading, developing, and managing a team of HSE Officers or similar professionals.
- Excellent communication skills to influence, train, and engage multidisciplinary teams, senior management, and client stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem–solving skills to evaluate safety data, investigate incidents, and implement corrective measures.
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience with sustainability initiatives, including carbon footprint reduction and waste management strategies.
- Familiarity with digital HSE management systems and software tools to streamline reporting, audits, and compliance tracking.
