The Design department is responsible for developing innovative, practical, and fully coordinated mechanical and electrical building services solutions tailored to each project. Working closely with clients, project teams, and the BIM department, the design team transforms concepts into detailed, build-ready technical designs that meet regulatory standards, client specifications, and sustainability goals. Their work underpins the technical accuracy and efficiency of our installations, ensuring seamless integration from planning through to construction.
The role will require the engineer to act as the structural control point between engineering design, BIM, fabrication, production, transport and site installation. The successful candidate must be capable of developing practical, buildable steelwork solutions for offsite-manufactured plantrooms, pipework supports, gantries, access steelwork and associated secondary structures. The candidate should be comfortable designing structures not only for their final operational condition, but also for fabrication, handling, transport, lifting and temporary installation conditions.
The role requires strong first-principles engineering judgement, with the ability to develop bespoke structural solutions where standard details or catalogue systems are not directly applicable. The candidate must be capable of reviewing fabrication drawings, connection details, weld requirements, tolerances and site installation details to ensure the structural design intent is correctly transferred into manufacture.
What You'll be Doing:
- Experienced in delivering structural design and assessment work for decarbonisation projects, including plantrooms, steel support frames, gantries, pipe supports, access platforms and secondary steelwork.
- Skilled in assessing existing buildings and structures for new plant, equipment, PV systems and associated installations, with design capabilities across steel, concrete, masonry and timber structures.
- Proficient in preparing structural calculations, technical reports, sketches and design reviews, while checking fabrication drawings, connections and layouts for compliance with design intent.
- Strong coordination experience working with BIM, MEP, fabrication and site teams to develop practical, buildable solutions, including consideration of temporary works, lifting and installation sequencing.
- Experienced in conducting site surveys, responding to client and contractor queries, and ensuring all structural solutions prioritise safety, buildability, maintenance and long-term performance.
