The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) department is dedicated to ensuring the wellbeing of all employees, contractors, and visitors across every project and site. They develop, implement, and monitor safety policies, risk assessments, and compliance with legal and industry standards. By fostering a strong safety culture and promoting environmental responsibility, the HSE team plays a critical role in protecting people, reducing incidents, and supporting sustainable business practices throughout Alternative Heat.

The Senior Environmental Manager is responsible for development, implementation, maintenance and expansion of the organisations Environmental Management System (EMS) in line with ISO 14001. The role ensures strategic environmental compliance and drives continual improvement in environmental performance across our operations. Beyond maintaining existing standards, the candidate will be expected to ensure compliance with all applicable environmental legislation and regulatory requirements across the jurisdictions in which the business operates, maintain and update environmental registers, including aspects and impacts and compliance obligations.

Leading by example, the candidate will foster a robust environmental culture within the team and across all projects, inspiring commitment to sustainability and environmental excellence. The Senior Environmental Manager will be responsible for leading the organisations environmental strategy, ensuring compliance with legal and other requirements, driving sustainability initiatives and promoting environmental best practice across all operations. The role provides expert guidance on environmental management systems, permitting, waste management, pollution prevention, carbon reduction, biodiversity, and resource efficiency while supporting business growth and operational excellence.

Reporting to the Head of HSE, the Senior Environmental Manager will work closely with project delivery teams, client representatives, and the wider HSE department to ensure a compliant, and sustainable operating environment within this rapidly growing sector.

We are seeking a strategic, influential, and results-driven environmental leader with strong technical expertise, excellent stakeholder management skills, and a proven ability to drive compliance, sustainability, and continuous environmental improvements across a complex organisation. The role is responsible for driving sustainability initiatives, managing environmental risks, maintaining ISO 14001 certification, overseeing audits and inspections, and delivering measurable improvements in environmental performance.
