Specialist Support Worker required for 36 hours per week in Knowsley. Our goal is to provide a space that enables individuals to live as independently as possible, while staying safe and connected to the heart of the local community.
You will provide specialist care and support and deliver our vision to create a world where people control their lives in line with each individual's personalised plan. Responsibilities include:
- Providing all health-related and social support to people with diagnoses such as Learning Disability, Autism, and Mental Health.
- Supporting people who present with behaviours that challenge by using appropriate techniques and strategies.
- Providing safe medication and pain management in line with their medication care plan.
- Managing medical equipment and supplies and monitoring depletion, re-ordering as necessary.
- Attending all clinical mandatory and specialist training sessions to remain competent to deliver care.
- Ensuring all incidents which cause or have the potential to cause harm are reported and recorded in a timely manner.
- Supporting people to design, develop, and own the support they receive.
- Helping people make informed choices and increase their independence, following the principles of the Mental Capacity Act.
- Enabling people to exercise their cultural beliefs and practices.
- Supporting people to form and maintain relationships of their choice.
- Promoting and increasing independence for the people we support.
- Helping people access their community and take positive risks in their lives.
- Ensuring the people we support are not abused, neglected, or ill-treated.
General Duties include:
- Providing personalised support to people with complex care needs, including assistance with activities of daily living and medication administration.
- Actively participating in helping the people we support to achieve their outcomes as per their agreed Personalised Plan.
- Supporting people to develop and maintain relationships as identified in their Personalised Plan.
- Facilitating the development of new relationships and supporting healthy lifestyle choices.
- Meeting leisure, work, social, emotional, and spiritual needs.
- Connecting with the community in accordance with their wishes.
Training & Development:
- Participating fully in training and development in accordance with the Alternative Futures Group development programme.
- Attending and actively participating in supervision sessions and performance reviews.
- Developing and sharing skills to aid in the provision and improvement of support.
Person Specification - Essential Criteria:
- Evidence of embracing, demonstrating, and applying AFG's Values.
- Ability to support people in ways consistent with their rights, choices, and responsibilities.
- A positive attitude towards people with complex physical, learning disabilities, and/or mental health problems.
- Ability to provide sympathetic, emotional, and practical support to others.
- Good verbal communication skills and ability to listen sensitively.
- Written English skills for accurate record keeping.
- Good interpersonal skills.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years experience in a Health & Social Care paid or unpaid role.
- Experience in restraint.
Personal Attributes:
- Willingness to attend all clinical mandatory and specialist training courses.
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, covering 24 hours/7 days.
